Bill called the meeting to order at 7:00pm.
Members discussed the new iPhone 6 and 6 Plus and went over reasons to upgrade. Mario showed off his new iPhone 6 on the projector to showcase Reachability, which allows the user to access elements on the top of the phone with one hand by double-tapping the Home button. Mario chose the 6 over the 6 Plus because he considered the Plus too large for comfortable one-handed use. Bill was considering the 6 Plus for the more powerful processor, the optical image stabilization, and the bigger screen for better video playback. Bob mentioned that Verizon and AT&T both offered trade-in deals for turning in previous iPhones: $200 for Verizon, up to $300 for AT&T (both offers have since expired, but the carriers still have trade-in programs that vary by model traded in).
The group then talked about new features in iOS 8. Mario demonstrated the ability to use third-party keyboards (downloadable via the App Store), the Details view in Messages which integrates Find My Friends and attachment history, and the new Health app, in particular the Medical ID (instructions for setup can be found online: http://9to5mac.com/2014/09/21/medical-id-ios8).
The meeting was adjourned at 8:30pm, after which several members reconvened at the local Denny’s.
